FOOD SAFETY BUDDY MAGAZINE
Issue 2: Food Safety Culture
PROJECT MISSION
Following on from issue 1, issue 2 was created to help food business managers instil a good food safety culture in their business

PROBLEM TO SOLVE
With he new Food Act came new rules and with that a new way of thinking. Rather than food businesses needing to follow tight perscripive rules, they now had a lot more leway- to encorgae innovation and remove barriers. The same would be for how
businesses would be verified. Food safety officers would look for good food safety behaviours by staff (eg regularly washing hands, using gloves correctly, cleaning as they go etc) - rather than following a checklist of rules to verify.
We wanted to create a magzine giving advice for ohow to train and encorage these good behaviours, with a key maessage in leading the way themselves as a hood leader/role model.
CASE STUDIES:

WHAT WE DID
Discover / Define
The project began with empathy interviews with food business owners to hear from them about food safety in their kitchens, how they train their staff and what they were struggling with.
Design
focusing on the struggles we heard and the staff training ideas we were told we started designing up our magazine. we included a couple of case studies, one from Pics Peanut butter who had won an award for best food safety culture the year before.
Deliver
After a few weeks of testing and tweaking we narrowed down our final magazine which was sent digitally to 60,000 food businesses in New Zealand.
